So, there’s a few “Stampin’ Stories” to tell about the birth of this very simple birthday card.

Here’s the first Stampin’ Story Color, Stamps and Cardstock

When I came into my stamping room to work on my card for this post, I had no idea what I was going to create, but I wanted to use the Patterned Occasions stamp set from Sale-A-Bration. This was good…I had a start.

Today some of the Pals were talking about Stampin’ Up! colors, specifically Island Indigo, on our Facebook Chat. So, I was going to use Island Indigo…it really is a beautiful shade of blue. I decided to stamp the “Happy Birthday Cupcake” using Island Indigo ink onto Whisper White cardstock. Sycamore Street Designer Series Paper from Sale-A-Bration features Island Indigo, so that would be my patterned paper.

Here’s the second Stampin’ Story – Sketches

Now, what was I going to do with this cute little Island Indigo cupcake?  Round, Square, Oval or Label Framelit?

I started looking at some sketches that I’ve printed out over time. I came across this sketch. (I really do encourage working with sketches, and also joining in on a few sketch challenges…they’re fun!)

Perfect! This sketch is a definite CAS (Clean and Simple); it allows me to incorporate some patterned paper (you know how much I need to have patterned paper in my cards), and my Cupcake would be round. Ha! My card will be a masterpiece! So a few minutes later, my card was complete….no, not yet.

Here’s the Third Stampin’ Story – Stampin’ Up’s new On-Line Classes

It needed something more…I had to pull some more color over to the “Cupcake”. There was too much “Indigo” on that side of the card…maybe a Tangerine Tango ribbon (I knew that would have to be my color)…I didn’t like the ribbon choice. Then I tried my “go to” Linen Thread…nope! Then I remembered….

Earlier, I watched one of the video tutorials from Stampin’ Up!’s new Online Basics Classes. In the card that was featured, they punched out the heart from the Owl Builder Punch…that was it! A cute little heart on a cute little cupcake, and it had to be Tangerine Tango.

So my “masterpiece” was complete!

Inspiration comes from the most unexpected places!
