It's time again for a Paper Players Sketch Challenge. I decided on something clean and simple, and as it turns out, this is definitely on top of my "Quick & Easy" list!
Here's the Sketch:
Not much to do here, because again, the Patio Party Designer Series Paper is doing all the work. I made a few cuts, stamped a "Happy Birthday" sentiment, punched out a 7/8" scalloped circle, and added a Whisper White button with some Linen Thread.
Clean, simple, quick & easy! That button on the scallop circle is so cute!
Now, remember my Card Design Tip #1….The Gallon/Quart/Pint rule? Here it is again in this card. My "Gallon" is Primrose Petals, my "Quart" is Whisper White, and can you guess my "Pint"?
I'm not going to tell you…not right now. So, here's another Design Tip for you.
DESIGN TIP #2 – THE FOCAL POINT. The "focal point" in a card is the main area where an embellishment, image stamp, or sentiment is placed. Typically it works best when there is only one focal point. If you take a quick look at my card above, your eye should immediately go to the white layered center doily and banner print paper. Well, I hope that's where your eye goes, because that's my "focal point".
If you take another look, you'll notice that the banners, flags and hanging doilies in my "focal point" are all pointing in a downward direction toward my embellishment. Notice that the printed butterflies are surrounding the embellishment. I cut the paper "by design!" (I'm sure you've heard that expression).
My scalloped circle, button and linen thread are all part of my embellishment within my focal point. At a quick glance of this card, your eye will focus immediately on the "focal point", then it is automatically drawn to the embellishment. As simple as this embellishment is, your eye is nonetheless drawn to it because of the movement of the pattern surrounding it.
We'll talk more about the design definition of the embellishment in a future post.
Oh, by the way…my pint is Midnight Muse. Hope you guessed right.
Until then, happy stampin' and do it "by design"!
