My post today is for this week’s Paper Players Sketch Challenge PP514. I always enjoy the inspiration from The Paper Players Design Team. Below is Jaydee’s sketch.
When I first saw Jaydee’s sketch, my brain registered “long and lean” times three. I went through my stamps to find a match, which is what I generally do when I’m working with an inspirational sketch. I thought the long, lean poppy image from the Painted Poppies stamp set would work well. The next question I ask myself is, “What do I do with the image”? I do lean more toward a clean card design with lots of white space, so there I went once again!
- I stamped the poppy image times three on a Whisper White 1 1/2″ X 3″ layer with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
- Then I stamped the small shadow image from Painted Poppies with Bumblebee ink to give my poppies a little color.
- I attached the three poppy layers to one larger layer that measures 3 1/8″ X 4 7/8″.
- The Bumblebee larger layer is from the 2020-2022 In Color Designer Series Paper pack.
- I layered the Bumblebee layer onto a slightly larger Basic Black layer (which is not easy to see in the picture) because I wanted to “lift” the Bumblebee layer. A mat layer will always do just that.
- My completed “sketch” was ready to add to a Basic Black standard A-2 card base.
- I chose the “HOPE CHANGES EVERYTHING” sentiment from the Love of Leaves stamp set because I not only love the sentiment, but the font weight matched beautifully with the lines of the poppies.
- The font is also simple enough to allow the poppies times three to have center stage!
I hope you enjoy today’s project as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
Thank you Jaydee, for your “long and lean” times three sketch and thanks to the Paper Players Design Team for such awesome inspiration.
So, grab a favorite stamp, multiply it by 3, add a little color and a few layers and create something clean and simple.
The only limitation is your imagination!

Debbie, those poppies are perfect for the sketch and I love the black, yellow and white color scheme – somehow it works so well with your sentiment. I think it feels so serene. So glad you shared this fabulous card with us at the Players this week
