When I sat down to create a card for thisWeekend Inspiration Post, I could’t decide what to do. I have a Sketch Book from many years ago, and decided to look through it to get started. A card sketch is always a good way to get inspiration. To me, it’s like putting together a puzzle. You have a picture of the general design, and you fill in the blanks.

I re-created the sketch so I could share it with you.

I tried fitting the sketch to a different Designer Series Paper Pack, but wasn’t happy with the way it was going. The Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper Pack fit perfectly. It was the large tile square in the DSP that seealed the deal for me. The remaining elements and layers naturally fit into place.

I suppose the moral of my story is to have an open mind when you sit down to create your card or project. After that first cut to your paper, you never know where your imagination will take you. Have fun with this sketch!

  • I cut a Night of Navy cardstock card base 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored it at 4 1/4″.
  • The Boho Blue cardstock mat layer is 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″.
  • The patterned paper top layer is 4″ x 5 1/4″.
  • I cut one of the large tile squares directly from a pattern in the Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper. It measures about 3″.
  • The Boho Blue cardstock strip is 1″ x 5 1/4″.
  • I cut the Basic White cardstock sentiment strip 1/2″ x 2 3/4″.
  • The lemon branch element is fussy cut directly from the Designer Series Paper.
  • I stamped a small flower with Daffodil Delight ink, stamped the sentiment with Night of Navy Ink and added a few Opal Rounds to finish the design.

All of the card layers are adhered with liquid glue. I attached the lemon branch with Dimensionals.

So, find a fun sketch, pick some pretty patterned paper, fill in the blanks, and watch your unique design come to life.
