It’s Sunday and time for another Paper Players Challenge! This week, Claire is hosting a CAS challenge all about SNOW!
With that in mind, I went through my “winter” stamp collection and found the Mountain Air Bundle. The Bundle includes the Mountain Air stamp set and matching Majestic Mountain dies. For my card today, I used both. I love the look of these pine trees. To me, they are strong and graceful.
I thought about how I would feel surrounded by nothing but pine trees like these after some freshly fallen snow. Peaceful is what I came up with. So, with that in mind, my sentiment had to be soft and peaceful which took me to my stamps again. I found a sentiment from the Wishing You Well stamp set, which is retired now, but a huge favorite of mine. The sentiment is clean and simple and matches my card design well.
I’m sure you know, a CAS card is a Clean and Simple design with lots of white space. I thought about adding a Mossy Meadow layer to match my pine trees, but instead scored the edges of my card layer, die cut my trees and attached them with Dimensionals. Those few changes made the difference and I didn’t need the Mossy Meadow layer.
Okay, now for my “snow story”. I wanted puffy snow on my tree branches. I tried white embossing powder with an embossing pen, I tried embossing paste, I also used a ton of my white glue and let it dry overnight. These attempts at puffy snow turned into what I would call a “hot mess”! So, I stepped away from my card production and gave it some thought.
Ha! I had a white Stampin’ Chalk Marker! So, I easily (and without any more hot messes) tapped the white chalk ink onto my tree branches. After a few doses, my trees had freshly fallen snow.
So, just for today, put away your floral designs and create a clean and simple snow scene. Celebrate winter and link up with us over at the Paper Players. All of us on the Design Team are looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
…the only limitation is your imagination!

Well, whatever you did, you came up with a BEAUTIFUL clean and simple card..it’s my FAVORITE one! Love it to pieces, it’s just gorgeous!
Good Morning, LeAnne. Thank you! I had fun with it as I always do.
CAS perfection, Debbie! A beautiful card! LOVE it! Have a wonderful week!
Thanks always, Ann! You enjoy your week as well.
Oh Debbie, this is gorgeous!!!! I love the scored border and these gorgeous pine trees. I live in GA and we have a lot of pine trees everywhere. We don’t see snow often, but this card makes me long for a snowy day. One a year works for me. This card is CAS perfection! Thank you for making my challenge shine this week! Wishing you a lovely week!
Hi Claire. Thank you! You chose a fun theme for this week’s CAS challenge. It was good to have a little snow in January. I live in New Jersey. We’ve had one major snowfall and a few dustings so far this winter. I think we’re suppose to see more next week. It always looks so nice when it’s falling. Enjoy your week also.
I like the way you embossed the lines to make a frame; they look interwoven.
Hi Mary. Thank you! I actually did that with my Paper Trimmer’s scoring blade. Very easy! Enjoy your day.
Peaceful for sure! I love your trio of snowy trees and even if it took a bit of a hot mess to get you there I think it was worth it! Absolutely lovely! Have a great week!
Hi Amanda! Thank you. Although it was a start and stop project, I enjoyed every minute of it! You have a great week also.
This is so perfectly CAS Debbie and your chalk marker snow really effective, even if it took a few attempts to get a result you were looking for! I love the scored frame too – so elegant, CAS perfection! As an aside, if you want an easy way to create puffy snow, you might find this useful: https://youtu.be/bDn401JkWus I made this video ages ago, but I find the technique foolproof!
Hi Joanne! Thank you. I just watched your video and it is a quick, easy technique that you show. I used my Multipurpose glue on one try and my embossing on another try, but didn’t combine the two. Perfect technique. I will be sure to share your link. Also, thank you for your kind words. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Just perfect!!! I love this CAS card…so clean and crisp!
Thank you, Laurie!
Absolutely gorgeous, Debbie! Such a clean design and I love the embossed frame. So cool how you achieved the extra dimension with the chalk marker. I can’t wait to try it! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you, Anne Marie!
You totally impressed me with this card and your post! I enjoyed reading your process and the bumps you encountered along the way! This card is CAS Perfection!! The scored frame is truly a SCORE!!! Well done! Have a great day!
Thank you much, Nancy! I wasn’t sure if I should share my process or not, but I thought there would be a few who could relate, so why not! Trying something I’ve never done is always a story for me, but that’s what makes it all so much fun! Thank you again and enjoy your week.
White on white and simple is always so beautiful! I can hear the quietness in this card. Amazing!
