Have A Sweet Conversation With Me!

Hello friends!  Happy New Year!

There’s a lot going on over at Stampin’ Up! this week.  More details are at the end of this post.

Here’s a Sneak Peek at a new Product Suite from Stampin’ Up!’s January – June 2022 Mini Catalog.  The Sweet Conversations Product Suite has everything you need to create Valentine’s Day projects and more.  I can’t show you pictures of the products just yet, but I can give you a close look at some of the fabulous Sweet Talk Designer Series Paper and Sweet Hearts Dies. The Sweet Conversations Suite will be available Wednesday, January 4th with the launch of the new January-June 2022 Mini Catalog.

The Making of a Collage Card

A favorite card design of mine is a collage card.  They’re fun to create and do take a little time but you can truly kick your creativity into high gear mixing patterns and elements. Creating collage cards is also a fun way for me to get to know what new products can do and how they work together.

All you need is a card base, some fabulous patterned paper, what I refer to as a “grounding frame”, die cut elements or an ephemera pack.

Here’s How This Came Together

  • I started with a standard top fold A-2 Basic White card base.
  • I added a Highland Heather cardstock layer that measures 4 1/8″ x 5  3/8″.
  • Knowing I was going to be die cutting elements and a grounding frame, I kept the background pattern subtle.
  • I cut a frame with my Layering Squares Framelits and the Highland Heather and Basic White striped paper. The pattern is a vertical stripe. To get the diagonal stripe for my frame, I simply placed my frame diagonally on the vertical pattern stripes.
  • The three large hearts are die cuts from the Sweet Heart Dies that match the patterns in one of the patterned paper designs. Easy and quick!
  • The sentiment is stamped with Highland Heather ink onto a Basic White strip. I added a Petal Pink layer to the sentiment strip for a bit of color balance.
  • I started arranging the die cut elements around the frame, but realized the frame wasn’t solid enough. A quick punched 2 1/4″ circle worked nicely to give the elements a more solid base.
  • If you take a look at the photo, imagine the large punched circle removed.  The elements I added would be “hanging in air” inside the frame.
  • That shimmery little jewel is one of the 2021-2023 In Color Jewels.  Love them!

Do you love Real Red and Highland Heather  for your Valentine’s Day projects? Check back in tomorrow. I’ll use the same basic design as today, but the card has a completely different look.

So, pull out a favorite patterned paper, add a frame, die cut a bunch of elements, arrange and attach!  That’s all there is to it.  Remember…

FREE PDF Tutorial – Joy and Lots of Heart!

Last week I was working on a card for the Paper Players Theme Challenge.  It turned out, I made two different cards with identical products.  Yesterday’s post talks about the first card and today I’m showcasing the second.  They each have a different look, but the design is similar.  Below is yesterday’s card.

I used the Lots of Heart Bundle’s dies and stamp set to complete these cards and you can get all the details on the products at the end of this post.

I want to talk about a simple technique I tried with the border die on the bottom of my card.  It was fun and I love the way it turned out.  I decided to use my second card and include a downloadable FREE PDF Tutorial illustrating the simple technique.  The PDF also includes all of the dimensions for today’s card.

You can download the PDF by clicking the button below.

Hope you enjoy creating lots of multi color die cut images to add to your projects.

Lots of Heart Smiles! PP#527

Welcome to this week’s Paper Players challenge.  Anne Marie’s Hearts and/or Stars Theme Challenge gives us endless possibilities to express our creativity!

Since Valentine’s Day is a week away, I chose to go with “hearts”, and lots of them I might add.  My card today is a standard A-2 Basic White card base with Melon Mambo, Blushing Bride and Flirty Flamingo die cut, scattered hearts.  Of course, I had to add the “bling” because everything looks better with a little sparkle, right?

I used the Lots of Heart Bundle’s dies and stamp set to complete this card and you can get all the details on the products at the end of this post.

I want to talk about a simple technique I tried with the border die on the bottom of my card.  It was fun and I love the way it turned out.

Supplies you will need:

  • Regular copy paper or light weight paper.
  • Your favorite die.
  • Adhesive Sheets.  I used Sizzix 6″ x 6″ Adhesive Sheets.
  • Thin strips of cardstock.

Here’s the “How To”:

  • Cut your copy paper to a 6″ width and attach the adhesive sheet to it.
  • Peel down the backing on the adhesive sheet about 1 1/2″ from the top and fold it over toward you.

  • Try to keep it straight as you peel it back.  It will be easier to keep your cardstock strips straight.  I use the grid on my craft table mat.
  • Attach your cardstock strips to the sticky side making sure they’re butted tight to each other.
  • Place your die on top of your new pattern and run it through your cutting machine.

  • Enjoy your new patterned cardstock die cut!
  • When finished, cover any extra “sticky” side of the adhesive sheet with the top you folded down and tuck the rest away for the next time you want to add a little something to a plain die cut image.

Check back tomorrow.  I will have a FREE PDF tutorial you can download and print.

So, pull out some of your colorful cardstock strips, add a little adhesive and your favorite die and create something unique to you!!

Lots More Heart!

Here’s a simple Saturday project for you and I hope you get some time in your craft room this weekend.

I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of love sent across the miles over the next few weeks.  I’m once again focusing on the Lots of Heart Bundle in Stampin’ Up!’s new January-June 2021 Mini Catalog.  I know you’ve seen a lot of it.  I promise you will see more, before, for and after Valentine’s Day.  It’s a good investment, but you have to get the dies.  When you purchase the Lots of Heart stamp set and Many Hearts Dies as a Bundle, you can save 10%.  Add a pack of Stampin’ Dimensionals (which you will definitely use to create simple collage cards like this one), and you will qualify for a FREE Sale-A-Bration item.  It’s a pretty good deal.

So, what do you think of my thin heart frames?  They were quick and easy using the Many Hearts Dies.  Actually, it was that heart frame that sold me on the Dies.  I’ve always loved collage cards and enjoy stacking and clustering images so I had a lot of fun with this card.

I chose to use Blushing Bride, Rococo Rose and Cherry Cobbler as my color inspiration and went with Basic Black and Basic White as my neutrals.  To me, the Cherry Cobbler works so well with the warm pinks and makes a nice color contrast.

Lots of layers pops up the dotted Designer Series Paper from the True Love DSP pack.  The layers also bring a lot of attention to my simple and clean heart collage.  That little silver heart charm you see is one of the Heart Charms from the Love You Always Suite.

So, get yourself the Lots of Heart Bundle, stack a few heart layers and create a clean collage card.

Lots of Heart!

Today’s post happens to be one of my favorite fun fold designs.  It’s quick and easy and has a few layers.  I love layers on a card.

Adding layers to a card accomplishes a few simple design techniques:

  • Layers can emphasize and define your focal point.  In my card today, the hearts steal the show!
  • Layers can help with color balance.  The side panel thin black layer helps the patterned paper pop and balances the black and white in the gingham heart.
  • Layers give your card a little more weight and can add dimension without foam tape or dimensionals.

The Lots of Heart Bundle in Stampin’ Up!’s new January-June Mini Catalog was on my first wish list.  Not just for Valentine’s Day, this Bundle can be used time and again and for quite a few different occasions.  There’s one caveat… you have to get the Bundle.

My card base is Blushing Bride and the polka dot patterned paper is from the True Love Designer Series Paper pack.  I thought about using a few Matte Black Dots to embellish my “Lots of Hearts”, but opted for an old favorite and now retired, Cherry Cobbler Candy Dots.

Here are the cutting dimensions for this card:

  • The Blushing Bride card base is 4 1/4″ x 11″ and scored at 5 1/2″.
  • Cut off 3″ from the left side of the card base after scoring.  This piece will be your Fun Fold focal point front.
  • Cut a Basic White layer 2 3/4″ x 4″.  This layer is attached to the Blushing Bride focal point front.
  • Cut a Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″ layer for the inside sentiment layer.
  • The patterned paper layer is 2 1/4″ x 4″.

I prepared this card project for my Team gathering this past weekend.  Tomorrow, I’ll post each Team member’s project, along with simple to follow tutorials.

So, grab a few cropped hearts, add some candy dots and create a simple fun fold.
