Let The Paper Do The Work

Create six cards from one sheet of amazing Designer Series Paper. The paper is doing the work! All you need are coordinating card bases and mat layers, a sentiment stamp, and some ink. Of course, adding a little sparkle is always fun!

As you can see from my photo above, I used one 12″ x 12″ sheet of patterned paper from the Sentimental Christmas DSP pack.

I cut the 12″ x 12″ sheet into three 4″ strips. Measuring from the tops of each strip, I cut three card front layers to 5 1/4″. Measuring from the bottom of each strip, I cut three card front layers to 5 1/4″.

Take a look at the card above again. You can see the card front layer is the top of the second 4″ strip. Stamp the sentiment (from the Light The Year Stamp Set), to the right of the lantern, add a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels, and your card front layer is complete.

I stamped the lantern image from the Stamp Set on the inside writing layer, and added the “Merry Christmas” sentiment (from the Reindeer Fun Stamp Set).

The top layer of the card below is the bottom portion of the third 4″ strip.

I used the same sentiment stamp and added a little sparkle. The adorable little Christmas tree image on the inside writing layer is from the Reindeer Fun stamp set, and I added the large “Merry Christmas” sentiment.

I completed four additional cards from the sheet that, as you can guess, are similar to these. I kept the color palette monochromatic and gave the inside a little more attention. I’m excited to share thee cards with friends during the holiday season.

So, find that great 12″ x 12″ piece of patterned paper, cut a few card front layers, add a sentiment and some sparkle and you’re good to go!

More Than Peppermint Hot Cocoa

It’s nice to be back in my craft room. It’s been quite a year – full of family events. I know I’m blessed to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends, and even though many of these important milestone events took me out of my craft room, it’s been wonderful to have been part of all of them.

Having recently returned from Vermont where I witnessed the marriage of my nephew, my son was married last week. It was truly a beautirul ceremony and cenebration. I couldn’t have been more proud and joyful to be part of this important milestone in his life.

So, let’s make a card!

I did a little Bundle mixing to create this delicious cup of peppermint hot cocoa – a favorite holiday treat for me.

  • I started with a Night of Navy card base cut 4 1/4″ x 11″, and scored at 5 1/2″.
  • The Basic White mat layer is 4″ x 5 1/4″.
  • I cut the Crumb Cake cardstock layer 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″.
  • The navy and white gingham patterned paper top layer is 3 3/4″ x 5″.
  • The Cherry Cobbler hot cocoa cup is stamped and die cut using the cup in the Latte Love Bundle.
  • I stamped and die cut the whipped cream (from the More Than Autumn Bundle), and attached it to the cup.
  • The peppermint stick, gingerbread man, and candy cane are stamped and die cut images from the More Than Autumn Bundle, as well.
  • The mixed font sentiments are also in the More Than Autumn Bundle.
  • I die cut the “Hot Cocoa” sentiment three times. I knew if I glued the die cuts on top of each other, I would have similar dimension to the other sentiments, but part of the reason was that I couldn’t make up my mind on what color to use. As you can see, I decided to go with white on the top.
  • A few scattered Red And White Peppermints finished my card.

This is another example of how Stampin’ Up!’s Product Coordination works. It’s wonderful to be able to purchase a Bundle or Suite of Products. Everything you need to create amazing projects is combined for you. Take some time, though, to go through your supplies and see what you can combine to create something new and unique to your style. And, most importantly, have fun with the process.

Until next time …

Weekend Inspiration And A New Sketch

Look at the embossed background for this card. I used the Forever Plaid 3D Embossing Folder to get this detailed, classic design. You can only imagine how pretty the embossing looks. The photo doesn’t do it the justice it deserves.

It was so easy to make this simple card. Aside from the textured background layer, I used one of the Spotlight On Nature Dies to die cut the reindeer and birds directly from the Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper. The designs in the DSP are sweet and nostalgic, bringing back years-ago Christmases. By the way, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3.00 to support children’s literacy for each Sentimental Christmas Designer Series Paper pack sold. Other than the beautiful designs, that’s a pretty good reason to get a pack for yurself.

So, let’s make a card!

  • I cut a Thick Basic White cardstock card base 4 1/4″ x 11″, and scored it at 5 1/2″.
  • The Shaded Spruce embossed cardstock layer is 3 1/2″ x 5″.
  • I cut a Poppy Parade cardstock layer 2″ x 3 1/4″, and rounded the corners with a corner round punch.
  • The reindeer die cut circle is about 2 5/8″ in diameter.
  • The flagged Pecan Pie and white patterned paper banner is 1″ x 3 1/2″.
  • I stamped the sentiment with VersaMark ink and embossed it using white embossing powder. The layer measures 3/8″ x 3″.
  • Assemble the focal point cluster as shown and adhere it to the card front.
  • I embellished with Pecan Pie Ribboned Adhesive Backed Dots.

I thought it would be fun to share a Sketch of this card design. Sketches make it easy to create your personal designs using different Designer Series Paper and color combinations. Have fun with it.

So, download the inapiration sketch, create a textured background, add a layered focal point, and create something wonderful to share with someone special.

Celebraing Reindeer Days And A Tutorial

Typically, the beginning of a new month is hectic for me. Now that I’ve announced my new Customer Card Kit, I can sit back and create projects to share.

September was a busy month. We travelled to Vermont for a family wedding and spent some time there. I have a very special celebration coming up thiis month. My son is getting married. I am so happy and excited for him and my soon to be daughter-in-law. I know it will be an amazing, heartfelt experience for me to witness this very special occasion. And, I am designing a very special card for them!

Until then, I’m back in my craft room doing what I love to do – create card designs and cut paper!

I thought it would be fun to use the Reindeer Fun Bundle and the Reindeer Days 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. Inspiration for this card came from the die cut gift boxes. I wanted to use them, but wasn’t sure how. After placing them up and down a card front, I came up with the idea of using the frame die in the Die Set.

The frame turned out to be a perfect “grounding layer” for the gifts. I decorated it with a little bit of die cut holly, added a few snowflakes, popped it on Dimensionals, and stamped a large sentiment. It came together quickly, once I die cut the frame.

So, do you want to make a card?

  • The patterned paper is my color palette inspiration: Crumb Cake, Poppy Parade, and Garden Green.
  • I cut a Crumb Cake crdstock card base 4 1/4″ x 11″, and scored it at 5 1/2″.
  • The Reindeer Days patterned paper layer is 4″ x 5 1/4″.
  • I cut a Crumb Cake cardstock layer 3 1/4″ long by 3 1/2″ wide and die cut the center using the large “window” die from the Reindeer Fun Dies.
  • I cut a piece of Vellum cardstock 3 1/8″ x 3 3/8″ and adhered it to the back of the die cut window frame.
  • The Poppy Parade cardstock mat layer is 3 3/8″ x 3 5/8″.
  • I attached the Crumb Cake frame to the Poppy Parade layer with Dimensionals.
  • The gift boxes and holly are adhererd to the frame with glue.
  • I stamped the sentiment with Poppy Parade ink and centered it under the frame.
  • The Basic White sentiment layer is 1″ x 3 3/8″.
  • The snowflake embellishments are from the Adhesive Backed Snowflake Assortment.

The inside of the card is stamped using a sentiment and an image from the Reindeer Fun Stamp Set.

You can download the PDF Tutorial by clicking the blue button below.

This is a fun card to put together. Try the design with patterned paper you have on hand and match up the die cut elements. The Reindeer Fun Bundle gives you everything you need to create this card design. The Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper gives you that little extra bit of “happy”. The coordination is perfect!

So, create a frame, add fun elements, a sentiment and a few snowflakes, and create a cheerful Holiday wish.
